I have been working in the field of special needs since 1996, and
have experience working with a wide range of challenges in both adults
and children.
Since 1996 I have worked almost exclusively with young children
with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and in 1999 was founder and
director of the original Shining Through Therapy Center Inc., the
first centre based program of its kind in the Greater Toronto Area to
offer Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) therapy in a group setting.
For the past ten years I have been developing and implementing
Behavioural programs and protocols for children with ASD, and
providing one to one intensive ABA therapy, under the supervision of
Clinical Psychologist, Dr. Gerard Klein.
I have also developed my own training manual for parents, and one
for professionals on “Applying Behavioural Strategies in Daily
Living”, which teaches the principles
of behaviour modification. This is applicable for
all children.
It allows parents and professionals to acquire the tools they need to
write their own behavioural protocols, and understand the theory of applying
behavioural psychology principles in their daily
parenting and work.
I have had a great deal of success offering on site consulting to
parents struggling with behavioural issues such as:
- extreme non-compliance across situations; school, public
outings, daily living
- safety
- meals
- sleep issues
- aggression/self injury
- transitional challenges
I have taught many workshops and seminars to parents, private
schools, teachers and child care professionals, and have recently
found there is an increased demand for this service for parents and
staff working with all types of
children, not just those with a specific diagnosis.
I hope to be able to meet some of the needs of parents everywhere
by offering online behavioural advice and services.
On a more personal note, I am a single mother of a teenage
daughter, and have lived in York Region (just north of Toronto,
Ontario, Canada) for most of my life.
